The Southwestern Veterans Business resource Center (SWVBRC) has teamed up with USVets TV (www.USVets.TV) on the TV Worldwide network (www.TVWorldwide.com) in Chantilly, VA, to produce a Veterans Entrepreneurship Training Series (VETS) live webcast to help Veteran-Owned Businesses learn how to Get On The Grid and become Procurement Ready. There will be both a studio audience and audience of on-line viewers and the webcast will be archived on-line for a full year for those who can’t attend either way for the live event.
This will be SWVBRC's first East Coast VETS event and a segment you don't want to miss!
Currently there are two very compelling speakers in addition to others who have been invited. Both are SWVBRC board members, Stan Fujii and Valerie Ormond
This approach is similar to the indoctrination many Veterans experienced to become Operational Capable prior to deployment. Training for six months to deploy as Special Operational Capable (SOC), will allow this model will serve to get you SOC for the 7th Annual Veteran and Small Business Summit being held in Oceanside CA on Feb 26, 27, 2018.
Stan Fujii is a retired federal government employee with over 31 years of civil service between Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). While at DLA, Stan worked in the Office of Financial Services reviewing contracts to be negotiated as a Contract Price/Cost Analyst.
The majority of Stan’s civil service was service to the SBA, in which 19 years of that service was in the 8(a) Business Development Program. Additionally, Stan served as a warranted Contracting Officer overseeing over $2 billion dollars in contract awards, and served as the IT Project Management Officer over the Business Development Management Information System.His competence at SBA led him to serve as the Assistant District Director of the Santa Ana District Office, and the Washington Metropolitan Area District Office. He went on a long-term detail at the SBA Headquarters Office of Business Development as the Acting Deputy Associate Administrator for Business Development overseeing the 8(a) Business Development and Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) Programs.
During his tenure, he touched every aspect of small business by having 2.5 years working and reviewing the HUBZone Program as a Senior Analyst and 3 years with the Office of Veterans Business Development as their Veteran's Procurement Liaison.
Valerie Ormond is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Veteran Writing Services, LLC. She retired as a Navy Captain intelligence officer and was one of the first women to serve on combat aircraft carriers. In her final assignments, she directed efforts of a 500-person organization supporting global operations, coordinated executive level briefing and writing support to the offices of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of Defense, and managed policy and programs for 23,000 naval intelligence personnel.
In her second career, Ormond has worked as a consultant and writer for government, industry, and non-profit organizations. Clients have included the U.S. House of Representatives, Kforce Government Solutions, (KGS) Inc., Vencore, Inc., AOC Key Solutions, Inc., Invictus International Consulting, LLC, the Maryland Horse Council, Braveheart, Inc., and more. She is a subcontractor on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) T4 NG contract, and her business is a VA-verified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business.
Ormond's non-fiction stories and articles have been published in books, magazines, and newspapers for many years. Valerie’s two novels, “Believing In Horses” and “Believing In Horses, Too,” both won Gold Medals from the Military Writers Society of America among other awards.
Her education includes a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College; a Master of Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University; and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Mass Communication from Towson University. She belongs to numerous military and Veterans’ organizations including Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and Naval Intelligence Professionals. She is on the Board of Directors for both the Southwest Veterans Business Resource Center and the Military Writers Society of America.
